Trey Giddens

Trey Giddens holds an Associate degree in Liberal Arts with concentration in Music from Abraham Baldwin College and a Bachelor degree in Music Education with an emphasis in Voice from Mercer University.  He was inducted into the Kappa Delta Epsilon Education National Honor Society and the Mu Phi Epsilon Music Fraternity while in college.   

Trey completed his student teaching at Westside High School where he then continued his teaching after certification in chorus, show choir, and dance from 2005-2008. While at Westside he developed an award-winning competition show choir program while also coaching the dance line and color guard for the school’s marching band. Trey then continued his teaching career at Berrien High School from 2008-2010. At Berrien he taught chorus and musical theatre and began a dance program. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he started an award-winning competition cheerleading program and competition dance team. In 2011 he found his home teaching at New Manchester High School in Douglas County. He is the vocal director of the F.A.M.E. (Fine Arts Magnet Education) program where he has built an award-winning and nationally recognized vocal program. While at New Manchester, Trey has also coached the dance line and color guard, been nominated for a Shuler Georgia High School Musical Theatre Award for costuming, advised the Tri-M National Music Honor Society, and directed InToneNation, New Manchester High School’s A Cappella group which recently won the American National Championship from the International Championship of High School A Cappella.  He has had many former students go on to continue their education in music at the college level, many with vocal scholarships to various esteemed colleges. 

Trey knew in sixth grade that he wanted to become a teacher as that was the first time, he could take a music class.  After his 6th grade year he was hooked, and he never looked back.  His family fostered his love of music by pushing him to sing in the church. Trey became the first high school aged music director in his church. Teaching is so rewarding and gives him a sense that he am making the world a better place one student at a time. There is no greater reward than a student continuing to sing after they leave his program, because he know that he shared and helped to foster their love of music as well.

Trey teaching philosophy is simple. Everyone is not born with talent, but we are all born with the ability to work hard and hard work trumps talent any day of the week.  From teaching at diverse schools he have also learned that regardless of skin tone, economic status, or cultural identity all students are the same and they will work hard for you as long as you have fostered a relationship with them and they know you care and will work hard for them.  

He has been blessed to be afforded the opportunity to build and shape his own program at New Manchester High School.  He has been paired with an administration and peers that believe in his vision of musical excellence and that has allowed him to carry out that vision even when it seemed unconventional.  Trey also been blessed with extremely driven and talented students that embody the goals of the program and a booster club that creates a community that supports the students, me and the program.  ‚Äč

Trey is the first generation of his family to attend and graduate college. His goal is to never forget the challenge that college can be for some and to be a cheerleader for his students the way that choral teachers were for Him.
