FBLA Pandemic Pals
New Manchester High school and Douglas County high school Future Business Leaders of America members write touching letters and notes for Georgia nursing home residents. Students learned how to properly format letters and used these lessons to send warm letters to nursing home residents seeking pen pals. The “Pandemic Pal” service project is one of the many ways that these students are giving back during this holiday season.
When asked what she liked most about this project, the New Manchester High School FBLA Chapter President Cameron Brown stated “I think that giving back to the community is essential, especially during these trying times. I hope that these letters put smiles on the faces of those who receive them”. Hard copies of the letters and cards have been sent out, and should make it just in time for residents to enjoy them for Thanksgiving.

Introducing YouScience!
On November 4th, all ninth-grade students were introduced to YouScience during the Counselors’ Virtual College and Career Kick-Off Week! The information was posted in the Google Classroom for the Class of 2024. What is YouScience you ask? YouScience is an aptitude assessment and career interest inventory. It uses a series of engaging brain games which measures your student’s natural strengths and interests to match them with a variety of careers that are aligned with their strengths.
We are reaching out because, to date, only about one-third of the freshman class has completed the assessment. It is important that all ninth graders complete their assessment as it counts towards a grade in their American Government class, whether they are taking the course this semester or next semester. It is also a part of the GA DOE’s mandatory Bridge Bill Advisement activities our department is responsible for overseeing.
The deadline to complete the assessment will be extended until December 11, 2020. Please ensure that your student has completed it by then. The instructions are posted in the Class of 2024 Google Classroom which your student has access to. Once it’s completed, their results report will generate within 24 hours and be sent to your student’s school email address. They can also access it via Infinite Campus.
We highly encourage you to review the results report with your student. It provides a detailed review of your student’s aptitudes, descriptors, best fit careers, and more! It is A-MAZ-ING! To learn more about YouScience visit www.youscience.com or review the enclosed flyer.
Thank you for your support in this endeavor!

DCSS Implements Clear Bag Policy for Athletic Events
Beginning Friday, September 18, DCSS will implement a clear bag policy at all sporting events. The policy will be similar to policies in place at college and professional stadiums and coliseums. "The clear bag policy will help us keep dangerous or illegal items, including weapons, out of our venues," said Superintendent Trent North. "Just last week, someone entered a football game in a neighboring county with a semi-automatic firearm. By allowing only clear bags, we can monitor what's coming into our stadiums and gyms and keep everyone safer with only a minor inconvenience to those in attendance." The following types of bags will be permitted inside DCSS sporting events:
