Casey M. Bethel is proud to be the 4th principal in New Manchester High School’s history.  He is a passionate educator and a mentor to young people.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from Fort Valley State University and a master’s degree in agronomy from the University of Georgia.  Mr. Bethel taught biology and physics for ten years before being named Georgia Teacher of the Year.  Since then, he served as a program director for the Georgia Tech Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing, and as the K-12 science and STEM coordinator for Douglas County Schools.  Most recently, he served as interim administrator at Factory Shoals Middle School.  He is a member of the University of Georgia’s Top 40 Alumni Under 40, the Fort Valley State University Alumni Circle of Honor, and the Leadership Georgia Class of 2022.  As a school leader, he is committed to high expectations, service, and results.

LaVar Hickerson, an educator for 16 years, currently serves as the Assistant Principal of New Manchester High School. He has previously served as a middle school teacher,
basketball coach, volleyball coach, RTI behavioral specialist, PBIS coordinator, and an administrative assistant. Mr. Hickerson received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Oakwood University, a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Clark Atlanta University, and an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Clark Atlanta University. He earned Teacher of the Year for Woodland Middle School during the 2012- 2013 school year and also earned Professional of the Year for Woodland Middle School during the 2020-2021 school year. He enjoys working out, writing music, singing, directing choirs, and spending time with family and friends.

Crystal Mattox is an Atlanta native and TRUE GA Peach, Crystal Mattox is going into her 7th year as a Jaguar and 13.5th year in education. January of 2023 will start year 14 for her. She has been a teacher, a counselor, an Instructional Lead Teacher, Administrative Assistant, Assistant Principal at the Elementary, Middle and High School Level. Taking care of students and our new teachers to make sure they have an amazing experience will be her focus this year. After teaching grade levels ranging from 6-12, Ms. Mattox became a school counselor in Paulding County. After a few years, she moved to Douglas County and became a part of the Jaguar Family at New Manchester as a counselor. She is excited for this school year and for New Manchester to excel to new heights. #JaguarSTRONG

Michael J. Moffett is an educator, father, mentor, and national trainer. He has shared actual teaching and management strategies with numerous educators, social service workers, and community stakeholders. Michael graduated from the California University of Pennsylvania with a B.S. in Education, Grand Canyon University with an M.Ed. in Special Education, Liberty University with an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership, and currently working on his Ed.D. in Organizational Leadership. He has 15 plus years of working in the field of education and social service. Michael is dedicated to creating a structured and rigorous learning environment that guides all students and all teachers to develop attainable goals. Michael’s strong passion for student success, his ability to build positive relationships with students, and his ability to implement positive behavior support and academic strategies will be an asset to the New Manchester High School’s administration team.

Susan Wilson has 23 years in education, with most of her years being in DCSS.  She has served as a special education teacher, Educational Evaluator, and has been at NMHS as the Program for Exceptional Children Specialist since 2014.  Ms. Wilson has served on various leadership and school council teams.  When she is not working with students and teachers, Ms. Wilson loves to travel and spend time with her family.
