NMHS Back To School Edition

Welcome NMHS Parents and Students,
It is with great honor and excitement that I welcome you back to NMHS. It has been far too long and I am anxious to see all of your smiling faces. As I begin this school year, I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive impact in the lives of our students. We will accomplish this by setting high academic expectations for all students and providing supportive systems to assure they are met.
Our Back to School Bash is scheduled for July 30, 2021. The times are listed below:
Seniors 8:30-10:00
Juniors 10:00-11:30
Sophomores 12:00-1:30
Freshmen 1:30-3:00

News from the Counseling Department!
New Counselors!
The NMHS Counseling Department is excited to introduce our new counselors! Ms.Nyssa Bowen and Mr. Devante Washington will be replacing Ms. Kristie Richardson and Mrs. Melody Saffo. Both are eager and ready to serve you and your students this school year! As always, your student’s counselor is based on their last name. The alphabet breakdown is as follows:

If you need to meet with your counselor, please schedule an appointment with him/her directly. The beginning of the school year is a highly active time with getting students registered and settled into their classes. Thus, a response to your email or voicemail message may be delayed. Additionally, individual meetings with your student’s counselor will begin after September 7th.
College and Career Center Specialist
Mrs. Pamela Morris is the College and Career Center Specialist. If you need assistance with an SAT/ACT test waiver, work permit, applying to the CCI, or requesting a copy of your official transcript please contact Mrs. Morris at pamela.morris@dcssga.org.
Communication
Join the BAND! To stay abreast of important information and events, please download the BAND app and subscribe to your student’s cohort class. You may click on the URL below for your student’s graduating class or search for your student’s class once you’re in the app. Both parents and students are strongly encouraged to join their cohort’s class on BAND.

Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences
If you would like to meet with all of your student’s teachers during a single meeting, a Parent-Teacher-Student conference may be scheduled through your student’s counselor. Appointment times will be either before or after school and may be virtual or in-person. One-to-one meetings or phone calls may be scheduled directly with your child’s teacher. Meetings will not be scheduled until after September 7th.
Attendance
Strong attendance is vital to your child’s academic success, however, we understand that he/she may not always be present. If you know that your child will be absent for an extended-period of time and you would like to request their school work, please notify their counselor. Daily attendance matters should be handled through the Attendance Office or by contacting your child’s teachers directly.

Summer Jump Start 2021 is a school-wide effort to support the continued development of skills and standards throughout the summer. This initiative allows students to preview and practice skills or standards in core subjects prior to the start of the Fall semester 2021. Students will be assigned one-two enrichment assignment(s) in various core classes and allowed to begin or complete these assignments during summer.
We have created a document that includes all of the summer assignments. This document should not be printed, as there are many links included that will take you to assignments and teacher contact information. We hope you find this format convenient and cannot wait to see you at the start of the school year.

COVID Protocols
All individuals should self-assess for the below signs and symptoms before reporting to school or work:
Fever (>100.4℉) or chills
New cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Muscle or body aches
Fatigue
Students and employees should stay home sick.
Physical distancing (3 feet) will be encouraged for middle and high schools when possible.
Students and employees should be mindful of others and physically distance themselves as much as space allows.
Masks are required on all DCSS buses per federal mandate.
Class sizes will be normal.
Students and employees should practice good and frequent hand hygiene. Warm water and soap are preferred. However, hand sanitizer will be provided and will be located throughout the school in hallways.
Students and/or employees inquiring about COVID testing can access testing through Cobb Douglas Health or their health provider.
Transportation
School Based Health Center
The Douglas County School System has a partnership with the Family Health Centers of Georgia to provide the students and staff access to health care. The School Based Health Center is located in the lower level at Burnett Elementary School, 8277 Connally Drive, Douglasville. The center provides a full range of healthcare services to help students and staff avoid health-related absences and receive support to succeed in the classroom.
The Family Health Center at Douglas County serves students enrolled in the Douglas County School System, as well as their siblings up to the age of 18 and their preschool age siblings beginning at age three. The center also serves homeless students across the district, district staff and children of the staff. The center accepts insurance or charges parents for services based on a sliding scale. The clinic staff will assist families apply for insurance if they are uninsured.
Services provided at the clinic include primary care, immunizations, sports physicals, laboratory services, physicals, chronic disease management, health education, nutrition counseling, and behavioral health. The space for the health center includes four exam rooms, a reception area, locked storage, and wheelchair accessibility.
The School-Based Health Center (SBHC) will be open Monday through Friday starting in August of 2021. They are closed during summer break and student Holidays. The center hours may be adjusted or reduced if patient case load is below a certain percentage. Student treatment hours are 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

USDA and our Elected Officials have voted for free Breakfast, Lunch and Snack meals for SY 21-22.
No applications for student meals will be required for school year 21-22
